There are no visible ecosystems that we haven’t occupied; there are no empty landscapes; there is no terra nullius. Art production in Canada has promoted a national identity around the ‘empty landscape’ myth; it incentivized imperialist expansion, mistreatment of nature, and erasure of Indigenous bodies.  I am recording the contemporary effects of our dissociation from nature, through themes of abandonment and resilience. I propose a unified reality of what our land truly contains: motors, wheels, vehicles, fridges, hubcaps, bicycles, oil drums, debris and destruction.
